"In a landscape littered with bands that adhere too strictly to a suddenly-popular psych formula, Shady Bliss show that there’s still life left in the fuzz." - Tone Deaf
"It’s time to hand the baton over and let the newest experimentalists shine with their own twist on the progressive rock sound." - Happy
In our humble opinion, Brisbane four-piece Shady Bliss are one of the most underrated bands in Brisbane, nay - the country. They’re pretty special to us, which is why we are so excited to finally release their latest efforts - the tripped out, psych dream, EP titled Old Boy. More than worth the wait, Shady Bliss are here to take you on a journey; one you won’t be able to resist.
Comprised of seven tracks drenched in psychedelia, Shady Bliss take a meandering journey through your brain. Flirting with electronica and modern production, they keep a certain sense of nostalgia as they blend psychedelic rock with elements of folk, rock and more. Using their expert songwriting, at times Old Boy is in-your-face vocals, guitars and synths, and at other times is a gentle dream. Featuring lead single, the psych freak-out of “Dirty Brain”, Shady Bliss sound like Pink Floyd meets Cloud Control in the best way.
Self-described as Angus & Julia Stone on shrooms, Shady Bliss have come a long way since the early days, and now emerge as a real force to be reckoned with. Here to shake things up in the Brisbane live music scene and beyond, Shady Bliss have always done things their own way, and now they’re finally ready to show everyone what they’re really made of.
Old Boy is out now via Bedlam Records. Brisbane fans can catch Shady Blissperform at DEADLAM alongside The Drones, Shining Bird, Dorsal Fins, GL and more on November 4th at the Brightside.
