Few do nostalgic genre-benders better than Brisbane psych five piece, Baskervillain. ‘Naivety’, the outfit’s latest offering, only serves as proof of this. After rounding out last year with the release of singles ‘It’s A Love’ and ‘Oh No’, (earning them a spot on Spotify’s Top 50 Viral Chart at #22), 2017 is shaping up to be a big one.

Dappled with synthesisers and underpinned by driving drums and warm guitar licks, ‘Naivety’ is a sonic treat. Setting the tone with a lonesome guitar riff and Tom Spurgin’s commandeering vocals, the tune serves as a wake-up call – ‘cut out the nonsense, naivety’. The track waxes and wanes, evolving to a final, glorious instrumentation, serving as a hefty reminder that Baskervillain are a force to be reckoned with.

As they stare down the barrel of a heavily loaded 2017, ‘Naivety’ is really only the beginning. The lads are once again preparing to rev the engine of their tune-maker in the studio. Just hope that when they drop it into gear, you’re correctly buckled in.
